Car Transport - Your Options
Budget, timeline and potential exposure to harmful elements all dictate what kind of car transport you will use.

Car haulers, all kinds, are not a new sight on the country's roads. Oftentimes, customers are confused as to which type of hauler will be used in transporting their vehicle. It is beneficial to know what kind of auto haulers are out there, and the way in which they are used to move cars, bikes, SUV's, and so on.

In general, vehicle transport trailers consist of two types, namely open transport trailer and enclosed transport trailer. Hotshots or trailers are the vehicles of choice for Car Transport. These trucks have been specifically designed to move cars.

A hotshot looks like an ordinary pick-up, but the difference is that they can transport up to three cars at once. The advantage of using hotshots is that they are smaller, and you don't have to wait for the empty slots to be filled before you ship your vehicle. One major downside of using hotshots is that you will have to pay the expenses yourself, which can be pricey.

Because hotshots are smaller, they can do more deliveries more quickly. If you require door-to-door delivery, then a hotshot is the best choice. While hotshots can only accommodate a maximum of three cars, tractor trailers can transport 3 to 12 vehicles at a time, although it still depends on the size of the connected trailer.

Everyone who is moving a vehicle on the tractor trailer will pay, so it is significantly cheaper. In order for this to be really beneficial, the trailer needs to be at maximum capacity. This means that the vehicle transport company may need a considerable time between the shipping and customer’s call so that they can get several vehicles heading in same direction.

Bear in mind that tractor trailers are too large to use narrow neighborhood streets. While they are great for long distance travel, they are slower due to heavy load. Remember that you may need to meet the driver at a terminal to collect your vehicle.

In terms of trailer types, the decision may split into either single-vehicle or multiple-vehicle. The decision is not up to the customer but to the truck. Hotshots generally use single-vehicle options, while semi-trailer trucks can cope with multiple-vehicle trailers.

If the car that needs to be transported is of an unusual shape or size, it can be carried by a semi. The car will be loaded onto a flatbed with the rest of the cargo. You will pay a lot for this service, but it is very safe.

It seems nobody knows whether the upper or lower deck of a multiple-vehicle trailer is best for transporting cars. Cars on the upper deck are exposed to the elements, and they drip on the cars on the bottom. Neither position is better off.
